Description
This lot features a significant collection of WWII-era German military equipment, including three "Tornister" pattern backpacks and a leather map case. The backpacks, often referred to as "Pony Fur" packs, exhibit the classic cowhide-covered flaps used for water shedding. Notable markings include a 1936 stamp from Carl Busse in Mainz, a 1940 stamp from Otto Stephan in Mühlhausen/Thür, and a 1942 stamp from R. Ehrhardt in Pössneck. The leather map case is marked with the late-war code njh 43. These pieces are constructed from heavy olive-drab canvas, reinforced leather, and aluminum or steel hardware. The items show signs of heavy field use and age, including balding of the fur flaps, cracking and stiffness to the leather straps, surface oxidation on metal buckles, and some fraying or small tears to the canvas bodies. Approximate measurements for the largest pack are H 16", W 12", D 3". Map case H 15”, W 9” D 4”. See photos.
