Description

This is an exceptional example of a WWII-era German Tornister, a piece of field gear legendary for its “pony fur” (cowhide) outer flap designed to repel water. The pack features a heavy olive-drab canvas body with robust leather straps and steel hardware. What makes this piece truly stand out to a collector is the crispness of the markings; it is clearly stamped “W. DAHL W.-BARMEN 1939” and “F” in ink superficially marked on the leatherwork. One shoulder strap stamped “1938”. This pack appears to be in unissued, “new old stock” condition, exhibiting only the most minor shelf wear and some natural oxidation to the metal components. The fur is thick and shed-free, the canvas remains stiff with its original color, and the leather is remarkably clean, and supple, showing none of the heavy sweat staining or field repairs typically found on combat-used gear. Also contains pair of leather straps inside. H 13″, W 12″, D 6″. You are not going to find a better example than this out there. See photos.
