The John Bannister Collection - D-Day and Militaria
Lot 2299a:
Description
Vintage (Tachi mok ko-gata) Japanese military sword GUARD (Tsuba) featuring a cherry blossom (Sakura) pattern design at the four corners of the border, on both sides symbolizing the ephemeral nature of life. Made of gilt bronze it measures 2.25” wide x 2.75” tall x .25” thick. It weighs 130 grams. There is a kidney shaped cutout at the side for a sword release clasp. The gilding exhibits a fair amount of wear, that is even and pleasing to the eye. This would look great on a sword, or as a decorative object of Japanese beauty and craftsmanship. Please see photos.
