Lot 1314c:
Description
This is an exceptional gathering of Theodore Roosevelt memorabilia, a truly magnificent lot for the serious political collector, spanning his 1905 Inauguration and the dramatic 1912 “Bull Moose” campaign. The centerpiece is a large, framed National Progressive (Bull Moose Party) campaign textile, often referred to as a “battle flag” or bandanna. This striking red cloth features a central portrait of TR wearing his characteristic Stetson hat, encircled by the initials “TR,” repeating feathers, and Bull Moose vignettes, all bordered by the party name in a vivid blue print. It’s a quintessential example of the aggressive, personality-driven campaign material that defined the 1912 third-party bid. Also included are an “Inaugural Souvenir 1905” booklet with an eagle motif and original red, white, and blue ribbon; two smaller framed items, one a photographic portrait of Roosevelt on a silk ribbon and another a print of him in a suit, likely a later reprint; and two original political pinbacks from the period. The framed textile is in generally good, vibrant condition for its age and material, though the textile likely has some light, inherent fold lines and may have minor imperfections commensurate with its use as a campaign piece. The frame itself appears sound. The paper souvenir booklet shows clear toning and expected edge wear, but the ribbon is still attached. The pinbacks and photographic pieces show minor handling and age-related wear but remain excellent presentation pieces. Flag framed: 27” x 18”. Program: 8.5” x9.5”. Framed portrait: 9.25” x 11.25”. Fob: 2” square. Button: 1” diam. Silk: 6”x3”.
