Lot 1345:
Description
Hopkins and Allen Falling Block 16 Gauge Shotgun with serial number 1831. Hopkins & Allen was best known for its entry level firearms in the late 19th Century, and along with some of the larger companies, was called the “Armorers to the Nation’s Nightstands.” At its peak, Hopkins and Allen was one of the largest American firearms manufacturers next to Colt and Winchester. This single shot, falling block shotgun has a 29-inch, round barrel with a fixed front bead sight. The top of the barrel displays the markings “Made by the Hopkins & Allen Manfg. Co. Norwich Conn. U.S.A PAT. June 23. 86. Oct, 2. 88”. The pistol grip stock and forearm are made of walnut and feature a checkered design. The walnut is in fair condition, showing handling marks and small knicks. The serial number “1831” is inscribed on the inside of the lever action. All metal exhibits remnants of a factory finish, which is worn due to normal use. The bore is clean, and the action moves smoothly and is tight. The overall length of the rifle is 46-inches.
