Description

L.C. Smith Baker Double Barrel Shotgun with serial number 5297 A. It has 30-inch, “Stub Twist” barrels, which was an early form of Damascus manufacturing. The barrels were produced by twisting and welding iron and steel ribbons around a central mandrel, creating a twist pattern on the barrels. The pistol grip stock and forearm are made of walnut and feature a checkered design. The walnut is in good condition, showing handling marks and small nicks. The rib is marked with “L.C. Smith Maker of Baker Gun Syracuse N.Y. Stub Twist”. All metal exhibits a factory finish. The receiver is marked with “Aug 31, 1875 PAT’D JANY 29, 1878” and “X 5297 A”. It has a front trigger forward push to unlock and open the breech. The bore is clean and the action is tight and smooth. It is estimated that 8,305 of these guns were produced by L.C. Smith. This gun was manufactured between 1878-1883. The overall length of the rifle is 47 inches. From Donley’s Wild West Town Museum.
