Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1485:
Description
This is a very nice example of a vintage special police star badge—a classic six-pointed ‘sheriff-style’ star, likely cast from a nickel-plated or chrome-plated white metal alloy, which was common for private security and auxiliary forces badges. The face is clearly marked with the text “SPECIAL POLICE” in two lines, separated by a horizontal line, giving it a great, authoritative look. The reverse side features a simple hinge pin and catch mechanism, typical of badges from the mid-20th century. It exhibits a pleasant amount of surface wear, including fine scratches and minor pitting consistent with age and use, particularly on the reverse side, adding to its character as a genuine piece of security Americana. The pin mechanism appears intact and functional. H 2.5″, W 2.25″, D 0.25″. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
