Description

This is a fantastic example of early 20th-century American law enforcement memorabilia, likely dating to the 1900s to 1930s. This style of shield-shaped badge, designating the wearer as a “Deputy Constable,” was common in county and township jurisdictions, particularly across the Midwest and South. The badge is constructed of a base metal, possibly nickel or an alloy, given the tarnished silver tone, and features a classic seven-point starburst design embossed between the two lines of text. The reverse shows a distinct, heavy-duty safety pin-style attachment, which appears to be white metal and has been soldered directly onto the shield, a common construction technique of the era. The item is in good, antique condition with an attractive, deep patina and noticeable surface scratching consistent with field use and age. There are no major bends or cracks, but the front face shows scuffing and the reverse exhibits solder marks and minor discoloration. H 2″, W 1.75″. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
