Description
Beautiful floral design mohair buggy lap robe with a cloth tag reading, “Chase” sewn on one corner. In overall VG condition. Measures 52″ X 58″
Chase & Co. buggy robes, or carriage robes, were produced from the 1890s to the 1920s by the Sanford Mills in Maine. They were made of high-quality, heavy wool and mohair blends for warmth in horse-drawn carriages, often featuring decorative stenciled borders and vibrant animal or floral motifs, and were considered symbols of wealth and luxury. After the decline of carriages, production waned, and today these vintage robes are sought-after collector’s items.
