Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1410a:
Description
This is a phenomenal pair of Abraham Lincoln assassination ephemera, highly sought after by Civil War and presidential history collectors. The star of the set is a framed reproduction of the famous $100,000 Reward Poster for the apprehension of John Wilkes Booth and his accomplices, including John Surratt and David C. Harold. This version details the descriptions and specific rewards for each man, originally issued by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. The reproduction is housed in a simple black frame and appears to be a late 20th-century reprint based on the paper quality and general appearance. The companion piece is a matted chromolithograph print depicting the dramatic scene of Lincoln’s assassination at Ford’s Theatre , likely also a modern reproduction. The print shows the moment Booth fires the fatal shot, while an American flag is draped below the box. A small, faint mark on the framed poster indicates it is “From the Abraham Lincoln Book Shop collection”, suggesting a reputable source for the reproduction. The framed poster shows minor wear to the black painted frame, with some chips and paint loss, but the poster itself appears crisp and well-preserved behind the glass. The matted print is in excellent condition; the colors are vibrant, though the paper has a slight yellowing/patina typical of older prints or deliberate aging, and it is cleanly mounted on a black matte. The overall matted size is approximately 19.5” wide by 14.25” high. Framed poster is 19.75” high by 13.25” wide. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
