Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1285:
Description
This is an excellent example of an Arts and Crafts or Mission Style writing desk from the early 20th century, expertly crafted by LIMBERTS ART AND CRAFTS FURNITURE of Grand Rapids and Holland, Michigan, as identified by the original maker’s tag inside the drawer. The desk features the characteristic straight lines, simple form, and exposed construction of the movement. It’s constructed of quarter-sawn oak, displaying a beautiful, strong grain pattern with a rich, warm brown stain. The design includes a single, long pencil drawer beneath the main desktop and a two-tiered bookshelf or gallery back. The drawer is fitted with original, period-appropriate bronze ring pulls on square backplates, secured with exposed pyramidal tacks, which align perfectly with the style. A keyhole for a lock is present on the center of the drawer face. The piece is in very good vintage condition; there is minor, commensurate wear on the desktop surface and legs, but the overall finish remains strong, and the construction appears tight and stable. H 38″, W 29″, D 18″. NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
