Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1284:
Description
A beautiful example of a Mission Oak armchair, likely from the early 20th century (c. 1900-1915), strongly reminiscent of designs by Gustav Stickley or a closely contemporary manufacturer such as L. & J.G. Stickley or Limbert. The chair features quarter-sawn oak construction with a rich, dark fumed or stained finish, a characteristic slat back with open mortise and tenon joinery visible on the backrest uprights, and wide, gently curved armrests with through-tenon construction pinned with exposed square wood keys or pegs, a signature decorative and structural detail of the period. The square seat is fitted with an attractive woven rush or cattail seat in a geometric square pattern. The item appears to be in very good antique condition consistent with age and use, showing a stable frame and minor cosmetic wear, including light scratches and scuffs to the wood finish and some slight fraying or darkening to the rush seat material. The overall patina is excellent. H 38″, W 26″, D 18″. NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
