Description

A fantastic example of a quarter-sawn oak Arts and Crafts or Mission style double-door display cabinet, often referred to as a barrister or lawyer’s cabinet, likely dating from the early 20th century. The strong vertical grain and rich fumed oak finish are characteristic of the period’s commitment to honest materials. The case features glass panels in both doors, a stick-and-slat gallery rail on top (stenciled with the number ‘808’ on the reverse side), and is fitted with original cast iron casters on the legs for mobility. The hardware is a distinctive detail, featuring patinated brass square backplates with heavy brass ring pulls and a functional lock mechanism with the original key included. The internal shelving is visible through the glass. The piece is in very good antique condition, showing expected wear commensurate with age and use, including minor scratches and wear to the finish, particularly on the top and edges, and some expected oxidation on the cast iron casters and brass hardware.
