Description

This is a superb example of an American Arts and Crafts Sideboard/Server, appearing to be the highly desirable Gustav Stickley Server Model No. 800 (circa 1904), a famous Harvey Ellis design. The form is strongly consistent with this model, featuring a low backsplash rail, a configuration of six drawers (two small over one wide on each side, flanking a central wide drawer) over a spacious open lower shelf, and supported by squared legs. The measurements are virtually identical to the specifications of the original No. 800. It is constructed entirely of beautiful quartersawn oak, showing the desirable tiger-stripe grain throughout the case and drawers, with heavy, dark-patinated metal bail pulls consistent with Gustav Stickley’s Mission line hardware. While the piece does not exhibit the characteristic decorative inlay that Ellis is known for (a variant of the 800 was produced without inlay), its structure, dimensions, and craftsmanship point directly to this model. The item appears to be in good vintage condition with a rich, dark patina. It shows expected signs of age and use, including minor scuffs, finish wear, and light scratches commensurate with a period piece. The interior drawer bottoms show original, lighter wood finish. No major damage or visible repairs are apparent. H 43″, W 54″, D 21″. Note: Pickup/Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
