Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1198:
Description
A fascinating lot for any leather worker or artisan, this collection includes two large, undyed, tanned hides and four smaller rabbit fur pelts. The large hides appear to be buckskin or similar lightweight leather, possessing a soft, supple texture and a natural cream/pale tan color, suggesting they are ready for cutting and tooling. The smaller pelts are a natural grizzled gray-brown rabbit fur, soft and dense, perfect for trim work, small accessories, or fly-tying materials. These pieces speak to the traditional craft of hide tanning and fur preparation. The overall condition appears to be good; the large hides show natural, irregular edges and minimal visible flaws, consistent with uncorrected, full-grain pieces. The smaller furs seem largely intact, though one or two appear slightly irregular in shape. Hides included: one at H 40″, W 46″and one at H 38″, W 42″. The four smaller fur pieces measure approximately H 10”, W 12” at their largest. See photos. From the Native American display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
