October Fall Classic
Lot 1328:
Description
This is a fantastic example of a vintage industrial lighting fixture, specifically a deep bowl reflector circa the mid-20th century. The iconic style, often referred to as “factory lighting” or “barn lighting,” features a durable porcelain enamel over steel shade in a striking, classic dark green. The top hardware, a cast metal housing, is clearly marked Appleton Electric Co., which manufactured explosion-proof and industrial fittings in Chicago, a great find for collectors of American industrial relics. The shade itself retains its original white enamel interior for maximum light reflection and is attached to a Goodrich Electric Co. (Chicago) mogul base socket assembly, also marked for Chicago origin. The condition is very good for an industrial piece of this age, showing only light, expected surface wear. There are minor scratches and dings to the green enamel, consistent with workshop use, and some visible oxidation/patina on the cast aluminum housing and rim of the shade, which all contribute to its desirable vintage character. The porcelain socket appears intact.
