Description

A stunning pair of vintage or antique cast iron garden urns on integral plinths, exhibiting a beautiful classical style of late 19th century American foundry work by The Kramer Bros. Foundry of Dayton Ohio. One base has the ofundry name cast in it. The quality of the casting is apparent in the finely detailed relief work on the square bases, which feature an acanthus or palmette motif in a recessed panel, and the impressive scroll handles flanking the main bowl. These handles terminate in ornate foliate flourishes, giving them a very architectural and grand presence. The material is heavy cast iron throughout, essential for outdoor permanence. The items included are the matching pair of cast iron urns, each consisting of a bowl section and a separate plinth/pedestal section. The condition is consistent with decades of outdoor exposure; the metal has developed a deep, desirable, dark brown-to-rusty patina across all surfaces. There is significant oxidation and heavy rust inside the bowls, particularly around the central support rod, which would require cleaning or liner insertion for planting. There are no obvious breaks or repairs visible, but the surface shows pitting, age-related wear, and minor chipping typical of old cast iron. H 44″, W 30″, D 18″. NOTE: Pickup/transport required.
