Description
This is a great find for the mining history collector: a pair of early-to-mid 20th century brass carbide cap lamps. Both lamps retain their essential functionality, with the key feature—the built-in flint striker mechanism—still sparking when engaged. One lamp is clearly marked “GUY’S DROPPER” on the top, a design known for its superior water feed, and the second is stamped “UNIVERSAL LAMP CO. MADE IN U.S.A. PATENTED SPRINGFIELD, ILL.” Both were made in the hub of carbide lamp manufacturing. The lamps are primarily constructed of brass or copper and show a heavy, deep natural patina. They are structurally complete, with all valves, hooks, and mechanisms intact. The original metal reflectors show expected heavy wear, including oxidation and pitting, consistent with use in a mine.
