Description
Excellent Double-Sided (DS) Figural Winston Filters Cigarettes Outdoor Pole Sign, likely manufactured by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (Winston-Salem, N.C.) in the 1980s. This monumental piece of advertising was designed to be mounted to a pole in front of a store, gas station, or roadside convenience mart, capturing the attention of passing traffic. It is constructed of painted sheet metal and is cleverly formed into the iconic shape of an oversized Winston cigarette pack (riveted construction). The back features a heavy-gauge, vertical metal mounting bracket bolted securely to the sign body, confirming its intended outdoor pole display use. The bold red and white color scheme, advertising “Winston FILTERS FULL RICH TOBACCO TASTE,” makes a striking visual statement. The added top sign, with its characteristic cracked reflective surface, reads “CIGARETTES SOLD HERE.” The condition is consistent with an item that spent many years outdoors, exhibiting heavy sun-fading on the red paint, noticeable scratches, scuffs, and small dents/pitting across all surfaces, and some surface rust beginning to form on the mounting bracket and lower edges.
