October Fall Classic
Lot 1146h:
Description
Assorted Tobacciana & Gaming Items The focus of this grouping is an interesting assortment of early 20th-century tobacciana and an intriguing novelty game piece. The highlight is the pair of Fleck Bros. Co. Indian Chief trinket/ash trays, one cast in a patinated base metal and the other in vibrant Depression-era vaseline or uranium glass (marked 1903 Classport lots). These ‘Indian Chief’ pieces are sought-after by both tobacciana and glass collectors. Accompanying them is a brass ashtray for the “Chicago Motor Club Honor Member,” featuring an enameled winged crest, a fine piece of early automotive memorabilia. The wooden vessel is a clever, likely late-Victorian or Edwardian parlor game novelty, featuring a concealed roulette-style wheel inside the lid that spins when shaken, a truly unique piece. The group is rounded out by a vintage, unopened box of 24 books of Zig-Zag White Cigarette Papers. The wooden vessel displays a beautiful dark patina with a green felt bottom and a few minor scuffs, and the roulette paper insert shows age-related discoloration. The brass Chicago Motor Club ashtray exhibits heavy patina and verdigris, particularly in the bowl. Both Indian Chief trays show general surface wear consistent with age, with the glass piece appearing chip-free. The Zig-Zag box is in excellent, unused, vintage condition. Items included: Wooden roulette vessel with lid, brass Chicago Motor Club ashtray, base metal Fleck Bros. Co. Indian Chief tray, green glass Fleck Bros. Co. Indian Chief tray, and a full box of Zig-Zag cigarette papers. H 6″, W 7.5″, D 7.5″ (Roulette Vessel); H 4″, W 5.5″ (Motor Club Ashtray). See photos.
