A varied selection of personal items a soldier may have had as part of their kit in the latter half of the 19th Century.1) Three plumes of ostrich feathers, two modern black and one older reddish example. 2) Leather, copper 1873 socket bayonet scabbard with a brass belt hook. Missing sheath for bayonet. Solid condition otherwise. 3) Antique Green Glass Sheared Top Inkwell, circa 1880’s, 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ x 2″. 4) Wooden compact [2pcs] with mirror inside detachable cover. Lathe manufactured. 3-1/2″ diam. 1-3/4″ thick. 5) Copper handmade ring. 3/4″ inside dim.6) Red [Artillery] hat cord; 7) Saber cloth bag w/drawstring. Rough condition, fairly old, and/or well used. 38″ long. 8) Pocket New Testament in red leather case. Published 1849. In ink: “Presented to Sarah Horton by J.C. Mallory, Savona, Feb. 1853.” Also written in pencil: ” Joseph Horton, Co, A, 161 Reg”. New York Infantry. Dim: 3-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ x 1″. Solid condition! 9) Straight razor kit.
