Model 1840 “wrist breaker” cavalry sword and scabbard. This particular example has no makers marks, date or inspector initials, anywhere on the sword or scabbard. The hilt and pommel cap are iron. This is a variant of this type of sword is either a European import, or a clone manufactured by the CSA. Tiffany imported some iron hilt sabers that were made by Peter Daniel Lunescloss and marked “PDL” and “TC” on the blade. This particular example does not have these, or any markings. The wooden handle looks to have a red ribbon wrap, with the wire re-affixed in place. The blade measures 35” to Ricasso. Overall sword length: 41.5” Scabbard measures 38” long. Suspension rings are 8.5” center to center on scabbard. Throat secured with rivet. The blade has some mottling on the surface, but overall it is clean and bright. No nick on the edge. The scabbard is also straight with miniscule dents. The pair present well, and are worth researching further for the sword collectors out there.
