A collection of items for storing documents, writing documents and other personal accoutrements an officer might have for the time period of the Civil war and after. Includes: collection of japanned tin document/map tubes, used during Civil War and after. Four tubes in all. 1) Tube, 17” long, 1-1/2” diameter. Decorative letter “B” in gold with pinstriping. Inside of cap has painted “K 1863” inside. 2) Tube, 17” long, 3” diameter. 3) Tube, 21” long, 2” diameter. 4) Tube, 20-3/4” long, 2” diameter. 5) Leather document container. No distinguishing marks. Significant red rot damage. Poor condition. 6) Wooden compact mirror, 2 pieces. 3” diameter x 1” thick. 7) Pair of small inkpots [bakelite] with secured screw on lids, likely early 20th C. 8) Small tin oval container with hinged lid, with what looks to be a mesh goggle and lens half of protective eyewear. Container measures 2-1/2” x 1/3/4” x 1-1/4”. 9) Sand shaker for ink writing. Has small ¾” diameter image of “General Lee’s Headquarters, Gettysburg, VA.” on the hinged lid. Three sets of holes in base for sand. 10) Binoculars for opera, horse racing etc. Derogy Paris. “33 Qual De L’horloge” Hinged cover leather case features faint writing for Paris Expositions” previous and up to 1867.
