Description
19th Century signal lantern made of tin. Painted black. This design was originally patented by E. Miller July 21, 1863 [according to identical examples]. Measures 8″ tall, with 3″ diameter convex glass on a door that opens to light small oil lamp found inside. Slider door moves freely. Lamp retains less than 10% of original black paint, but is in good, operable condition. These are sometimes referred to as “Police Lanterns” This piece of equipment was part of the Civil War and Indian War display at Donley’s Wild West Town Museum for 45 years.
