Description
Nice, clear studio 1/4 plate tintype of a bearded Union soldier in uniform standing at attention wearing his belt with his bayonet fixed musket at his side. Belt buckle, cartridge box plate and uniform buttons have gold embellishment. He is in front of a patriotic backdrop that features a cannon w/ cannonballs, crossed stacked rifles, undulating US Flag, naval gunboat smokestacks and soldiers accoutrements surrounding him. Image in VG condition. Mounted behind a rectangular gold matte with rounded corners in a typical leatherette case. Missing the case cover. Measures: 3-3/4” x 4-3/4” x 1/4”. The back of the image has 4 cancelled US Internal Revenue stamps [two blue 2 cent and two green 3 cent] The number 5 is marked in ink on both the stamps and the back of the case cover. This tintype was part of the Civil War and Indian War display at Donley’s Wild West Town Museum for 45 years.
