Description
This restored M1858 hat stands 6.5″ and has full brass insignia, chin-cord and ostrich feather. The brown leather liner appears to be a modern replacement/restoration. Lining has large faded label ink stamped “US Army Extra Manufacture Size 7 No. 3”. The felt body shows wear and age and no has cracks or weak spots. The bugle and K devices match well with nice patina and held in place with pieces of modern leather. The blue hat cord has some fading and age. The ostrich feather has black twice at point and is sewn in place to the lower outside hatband. We consider this a period hat that has had professional restoration, not to fool anyone but to bring it back to original grandeur.
