Description

This is an excellent example of the 12 button M1858 artillery shell jacket and is marked in right armpit with inked with 3 dots and illegible manufacturer’s ink stamp. It the lining is gray and white wool worsted cloth. The buttons match with 3 missing but one of them present to sew back on. The buttons are plain thin neck eagle general service pattern. The condition is very good with the red worsted piping bright colors. Shoulders have spots on wear from wearing straps. The front chest and left arm area has 3 small old field repairs. The 12 button holes show normal wear. The blue wool body has some very light and random moth tracks to parts of front and on back and a couple of hole. Surprisingly, they are hard to see and do not distract. The right arm cuff and right front jack corner has a mothing. (see pictures) There are popped threads on right shoulder and upper center back seam. This is a classic shell jacket in very good condition.
