Description
Bubble Books were a historic series of 14 children’s multimedia books published between 1917 and the early 1930s that integrated phonograph records right into the stories. The records were made by Columbia with the books by Harper’s Publishing. Billed as the original “Books That Sing,” they are widely recognized as the very first commercial “read-along, sing-along” book-and-record bundles in publishing history. They are small, hardbound books measuring 6″ x 7″ featuring a rhyming story written by Ralph Mayhew and Burges Johnson. Each volume was brought to life with distinct, Art Nouveau-influenced color drawings by illustrator Rhoda Chase. The pages doubled as sleeves holding 3 small, 5.5-inch 78 rpm records. These single-sided discs feature nursery rhymes sung by the then popular tenor Henry Burr. This complete set of books is in VG original condition with all records intact and in VG condition with the exception of book No. 8 The Funny Froggy is missing one record titled, “The Frog”. Collection as a whole measures 7.5” X 6” X 7”. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
