Description
An exceptional find for the early disc enthusiast, this pair of early 20th-century 10-inch single-sided shellac records represents the vibrant immigrant recording market captured by the Universal Talking Machine Mfg. Co. of New York. Both discs feature the iconic green and gold Zon-O-Phone Record labels with Hebrew/Yiddish repertoire, including catalog number 3015 (“Freg nit kein Katschanes” by S. Smalewitz) and catalog number 3038 (“Die Mume, Glickele”). The reverse sides feature the original paper patent and price notice labels, a hallmark of the era’s competitive talking machine wars. Both discs sit flat but exhibit noticeable surface scratches, scuffs, and expected signs of handling consistent with their age; additionally, record number 3038 has a hairline crack at the 7 o’clock position.
