Hand-Carved Wooden Folk Art – Jesse James, America’s most infamous outlaw, shot in the back of the head by a trusted member of his own gang, Bob Ford, who unbeknownst to Jesse made a secret pact with Missouri Governor Crittenden to capture or kill Jesse James in exchange for a massive $10,000 bounty and full pardons, when Jesse was unarmed and turned away, he quietly shot him behind his ear, in front of his horrified wife and children, artist carved “VIT” in bottom, initials of a talented regional woodcarver that has deep roots in waterfowl decoy carving, the texture work on the clothing and boots strongly mimics the “feather texturing” techniques used by wildlife carvers to give wooden birds a realistic look before paint is applied, figurines have been in storage for 40 years, were going to be put on display at Donley’s Wild West Town, minor scuffs, good condition, 12″ x 6 1/2″
