Vintage Salesman’s Oil Sample Kit, traveling salesmen from petroleum cooperatives and businesses, such as the Farmers Oil Co, in Ogle County, IL, carried these velvet-lined cases in the early to mid 20th century to showcase different grades, colors, and viscosities of motor oils and lubricants directly to prospective buyers, mechanics and farmers, tag inside shows a vintage oil change service tag from the Illinois Farm Supply Company, tag functions as a highly specific piece of localized Midwest agricultural and petroliana history making this salesman’s sample significantly more valuable, by flipping tube upside down, the buyer could watch how fast or slow the ball dropped through the fluid, the frame of the folding case is intact, the red velvet-lined tray shows minimal shedding, expected compression marks, no staining or major tearing, black faux-leather paper covering shows scuffs, minor peeling, fraying and splitting, leather handle is intact, but shows heavy cracking, metal snaps show minor oxidation, tubes are free of chips, fractures, cracks, oil level varies due to natural evaporation, paper label naturally yellowed and oxidized, hard to read, corks are fragile, one tube is missing, missing both snap fasteners to latch the box shut, fair condition, see photos.13 1/4″ x 7 1/2″ An authentic piece of American agricultural history!
