Description
Antique Skeleton Bell Mechanism, manufactured by the Manhattan Electrical Supply company (MESCO), used as industrial fire alarms, school bells, telegraph alerts and high-end residential doorbells, two fabric-wrapped copper cylinders act as an electromagnet, when electricity flows through them, they generate a magnetic field, this pulls the armature arm inward, forcing the striker to hit the metal gong, a return spring pulls the arm back and the cycle rapidly repeats to create a continuous ringing sound, cast iron base reads “PATENTED” and “No 4” on back, armature arm reads “PEERLESS”, faint, elegant gold pinstriping tracing the curves of the metal, companies like MESCO hand-painted these border lines to make the devices presentable for high-end residential hallways, offices and hotels, shows minimal wear, cast iron frame with minimal chipping, coils are tightly wound, striker arm is straight, gong shows natural aged oxidation, minor surface pitting and spotting, good condition, see photos.
