Antique American Toleware Commode Bucket/Slop Pail, premium household item used in bedrooms during the 19th century, part of a washstand set and built to endure heavy household use asymmetrical brim looks like a classic top hat when turned upside down, hand-painted or stenciled gold Federal Eagle motif on front, painted gold accents with scroll line and stars on sides,heavy rim and flared ring are typical heavy-gauge sheet metal, metal brackets holding the handle wire are securely attached using thick, heavy rivets, beautifully aged, but no serious dents except small dent on base rim, structurally intact, glossy black finish has broken down, heavily oxidized, gold stencil is worn but still partially legible, some rust, original wooden grip is intact, which is rare, fair condition, see photos.12″ tall with 8.5″ diameter, 12″ with pour spout. A fantastic piece of authentic Americana folk art!
