Lot 2265:
Description
These are a classic set of WWI-era US Military cavalry saddlebags, likely the Model 1904 pattern, crafted from heavy russet leather. While no specific maker’s mark or manufacturer stamp was located during inspection—a common occurrence with wartime production or worn field gear—the authentic embossed “US” in an oval on the flaps confirms their military lineage. The bags feature the standard connecting bridge with a pommel hole and original brass hardware. The leather displays a seasoned patina with significant signs of age and service, including heavy surface crazing, scuffing, and some deterioration to the stitching and leather loops on the lower sections. No interior canvas bags present. The piece remains a solid example of early 20th-century horse soldier equipment. H 42″, W 13.5″, D 3″. Please see photos.
