Description

These striking Native American moccasins are a testament to traditional Plains-style craftsmanship, likely dating to the early-to-mid 20th century. Hand-constructed from brain-tanned buckskin, they feature vibrant, full-coverage “lazy stitch” beadwork on the uppers. The geometric patterns incorporate stylized Thunderbird motifs in turquoise and cobalt blue, framed by deep oxblood red borders against a crisp white seed bead background—a palette and design frequently attributed to the Sioux (Lakota) or Cheyenne tribes.

The hard-sole construction, typical of nomadic Plains tribes for protection against rough terrain, shows significant history and wear. The leather has aged with a dark, rich patina and remains flexible, though the interior soles show heavy darkening and cracking from authentic use. There is a small area of bead loss near the toe of the left moccasin and some minor fraying to the hide ties. H 2″, W 4″, D 10″. Please see photos.
