Lot 2502:
Description
This Union Army infantry rig features a stamped brass “US” oval belt plate with its original lead-filled backing and leather waist belt. This specimen is notable for its extensive soldier-applied personalization; the initials “FAB” are deeply inscribed on the reverse lead, while the front face bears a secondary, crudely scratched “MB.” The plate is equipped with the desirable “puppy paw” style studs, which notably feature a brass base where they meet the lead, a characteristic often associated with specific mid-1860s contractors. The assembly includes its original heavy wire hook and shows an honest, uncleaned mustard patina throughout. The leather belt exhibits expected mid-19th-century wear, including surface crazing, stiffness, and minor losses at the attachment slots, yet remains a solid representative example of a field-used military relic with significant “identified” potential. H 2″, W 40″, D 3.5″. Please see photos.
