Lot 2494:
Description
These striking Plains Indian style moccasins showcase remarkable craftsmanship, featuring a fully beaded “lazy stitch” design with a vibrant palette of translucent and opaque seed beads. Constructed from traditional brain-tanned buckskin with thick rawhide outsoles, they incorporate tin cone “jingles” with red horsehair accents at the toe, a classic detail of late 19th to early 20th-century regalia. The “lazy stitch” technique creates the characteristic ribbed texture favored by Plains tribes like the Sioux or Cheyenne. The moccasins show significant age-related wear, including some bead loss along the edges, hardening of the leather, and fraying of the textile elements. The rawhide soles exhibit heavy patina and some curling from historic use. H 3.5″, W 4″, D 10.5″. Please see photos.
