Description

A historically significant frontier collection featuring two professional-grade carbon steel knives marked “R.W. TOHTZ & CO ST. LOUIS.” These “trade knives” are paired with custom-fit, hand-beaded sheaths featuring traditional “Lazy Stitch” and “Wraparound” techniques using non-uniform, period-correct glass seed beads. The lot also includes a side-seam beaded buckskin pistol holster with swirling “Keyhole” or “Seed” motifs in yellow and blue, and a carved horn powder/drenching flask with a beaded suspension cord. The blades show heavy age-appropriate oxidation and original wood scales; the beadwork is remarkably intact with minor thread wear and light bead loss. Leather shows expected stiffening and field staining. Holster L 12″, W 3.75″, Larger Sheath L 8.25″, W 2.5″, Smaller Sheath L 6.75″, W 2.25″, Knives L 9.75″, L 8.5″, Horn L 5″. Please see photos.
