Description

This rare and sweeping panoramic photograph, captured by the renowned C.R. Waterman of Chicago (715 E. 55th St.), offers a magnificent view of an early 20th-century military encampment, likely dating to the Spanish-American War era or a major state militia muster (circa 1898–1910). The scene is rich with historical detail, showcasing traditional pyramid-style Sibley tents and horse-drawn transport wagons moving across the dusty plains, set against a distant river and treeline. The perspective and crispness of the shot reflect the high caliber of Waterman’s early field photography. The photograph is housed in a period-correct, ornately carved dark wood frame with a distinctive rope-and-scallop motif. The print remains in good antique condition with some minor silvering and tonal shifts; the frame shows light edge wear and a few small chips to the gesso, typical for its age. H 12.25″, W 26.25″, D 1″. Please see photos.
