Description

This exceptional collection is anchored by two historically significant volumes of Southwestern Americana: the 1903 first edition of Indians of the Southwest by George A. Dorsey, published by the Santa Fe Railway, and a 1914 Fred Harvey publication, The Great Southwest. The Dorsey volume, authored by the Field Columbian Museum’s Curator of Anthropology, remains a seminal work of early travel ethnography, while the Harvey book is celebrated for its remarkably vibrant color plates and a charming hand-written provenance dated May 9th, 1914. Accompanying these is a framed display of 26 assorted stone projectile points (arrowheads) meticulously mounted on green felt within a decorative cream-toned frame. The set also includes a hand-carved wooden relief portrait of a Native American elder with a distinctive yarn-wrapped border and two modern reference books: North American Indians and Biographies and Legends of the New England Indians. The 1903 Dorsey book is in excellent condition despite a minor map tear, and the 1914 Harvey plates retain superb saturation. The projectile points appear intact and well-preserved. Carving: H 12″, W 9.75″, D 1.5″; Arrowhead Frame: H 9.75″, W 8″, D 1″. Please see photographs.
