Lot 2349:
Description
This impressive signal or saluting cannon features a heavy, stepped brass barrel mounted on a rugged cast-metal carriage with fixed spoked wheels. Evoking the mid-to-late 19th-century military aesthetic, the piece demonstrates a lovely aged patina with authentic verdigris occurring near the square-cut touchhole. While no maker’s marks are visible, the construction and style are reminiscent of high-quality maritime or ceremonial pieces used for celebrations and yachting signals. The barrel exhibits a deep, untouched bronze-like finish, while the carriage retains a dark, oxidized surface. Condition is good overall, with expected surface wear, minor pitting, and some scuffing consistent with age and long-term display; the bore appears clear. H 9.5″, W 10.5″, D 22″. Please see photos.
