Description
Large Northern Plains Catlinite pipe with bear effigy, carved from sacred red Catlinite revered by the Plains and Woodland tribes alike. The simple rectangular pipe features a carved bear perched on top facing the bowl. The stem is wooden and is partially flat and partially spiral. Red and green paint cover opposite sides, creating a striking visual effect. Good condition. Scuffs on bowl commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: 35.75” long x 1.75” wide overall. Pipe effigy: 3.75” tall x 7.75” long. Stem 29” long. See photos.
