Lot 2321:
Description
This historically rich collection features two heavy-duty leather scabbards and a finely hand-tooled leather accessory bag. The 34-inch scabbard is of significant interest to military and saddlery collectors, bearing the “WFL” maker’s mark at the throat. Research into mid-century contractors suggests “WFL” often denotes a Western-based saddlery or military supplier (such as Western Furniture & Leather) active during the wartime production eras. Both scabbards are crafted from thick, russet-colored saddle leather with reinforced brass hardware. The accompanying tool bag displays classic Western floral “leaf and vine” tooling, a mark of high-tier craftsmanship. While the larger scabbard shows typical age-related drying, the leather on the marked scabbard and tooled bag is notably live and supple, which is a premium trait for preservation. The bag features a broken closure strap, a common mechanical failure for field-used gear, while the scabbards show authentic surface crazing and finish wear at the extremities. Longest scabbard: H 45″, W 7″; WFL scabbard: H 34″, W 7″; Tool bag: H 13″, W 10″, D 2.5″. Please see photos.
