Description

This collection consists of ten historic prints by the frontier photographer L.A. Huffman, each mounted on foam core and accompanied by a “Coffrin’s Old West Gallery” certificate of authenticity. These are identified as collotypes, a photomechanical process Huffman utilized between 1907 and 1920 in Miles City, Montana. The subjects include expansive trail herds, sheep trailing on the Powder River, and a studio portrait of a Native American man. These prints were produced in limited runs due to the fragile nature of the gelatin plates used in the collotype process. The collection (9 total) is preserved under shrink wrap with certificates from curator Jack Coffrin (active 1965-1980). The prints appear to be in good condition, protected by the wrap, though there is light age-toning to the mats and occasional minor surface wear or dust ingress under the plastic film. H 12″, W 27″, D 0.5″ Framed print measures W 26.5”, H17.5” (frame). Please see photos.
