Description

These authentic WWI-era leather saddlebags, manufactured by the renowned A.G. Spalding & Bros., are a rare find for cavalry or military collectors. Dated 1918, these bags feature heavy-grain leather construction, brass hardware, and a specialized interior. Notably, one bag retains its original canvas liner/insert, while the other does not, highlighting the survival of field-used gear. The craftsmanship reflects the rugged durability required for Great War field service, complete with adjustable straps and sturdy stitching. The leather shows significant age-related wear, including surface cracking, scuffing, and some stiffening, while the brass components exhibit a natural patina. The remaining interior canvas has some staining and fraying consistent with over a century of age. H 21″, W 14″, D 3″. Please see photos.
