Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2231:
Description
This massive, highly desirable archaeological assemblage contains approximately 150+ prehistoric artifacts, showcasing the incredible utility and craftsmanship of early indigenous cultures. The collection is highlighted by an extensive assortment of hand-fashioned bone awls, perforators, and pins, alongside several highly unique modified bone fragments—including a rare specimen cleanly drilled with multiple holes, suggesting a tool handle, toggle, or musical instrument. Accompanying the bone tools are four classic grooved stone abraders used for smoothing shafts or sharpening implements. Every piece exhibits an authentic, deeply weathered patina with rich mineral staining from centuries of burial. The items are in stable, as-found archaeological condition, showing expected ancient wear, blunt tips, historic fractures, and surface weathering, yet they retain excellent structural integrity. The largest bone tool measures H 2″, W 8.75″, D 3.5″. Please see photos for condition.
