Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2213:
Description
This stunning pair of vintage Native American style buckskin gauntlets showcases exquisite floral beadwork, featuring a prominent purple rose motif with green leaves and a red bud on each cuff. Crafted from soft, supple tan leather, the gauntlets are adorned with long fringed edges along the sides, a decorative red felt scalloped border with glass bead accents, and a luxurious deep purple velvet trim at the cuff openings. The interiors are lined with a striking pink and white floral patterned calico fabric, indicating a late 19th to early 20th-century style often seen in Great Lakes or Plateau regional craftwork. The gloves show moderate, authentic wear consistent with age, including mild surface soiling, light staining, and minor scuffs on the leather palms and fingers, but the beadwork remains remarkably intact and secure. H 13″, W 7.5″, D 2″. Please see photos for condition.
