Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2209:
Description
This offering features a pair of vibrant Navajo-style Southwest woven textiles, showcased in two distinct geometric designs. The smaller rug showcases a traditional eye-dazzler or Ganado-inspired aesthetic with prominent stepped diamond medallions in deep red, grey, and cream wool, framed by a striking black and red crenellated border. The larger rug exhibits a highly stylized, modernistic geometric maze pattern composed of interlocking natural cream, brown, and tan wool paths, accented by minimalist blocks of soft yellow and vertical bars of crimson red. Both pieces are hand-woven from coarse, durable wool yarn, exemplifying classic twentieth-century regional Southwest weaving techniques. Both textiles appear to be in good vintage condition overall, showing minor edge fraying, slight corner wear, and faint surface soiling consistent with age and light use, but maintaining excellent structural integrity and color vibrancy. Larger rug: H 48″, W 31.5″, D 0.25″. Smaller rug: H 37″, W 18.25″, D 0.25″. Please see photos for condition.
