Description

As a dedicated collector of Carboniferous paleontology, I find this extensive estate assembly of Pennsylvanian-era (300 million years old} Mazon Creek style ironstone nodule fossils to be highly impressive. The collection features a diverse assortment of beautifully preserved plant and flora specimens—including Pecopteris and Alethopteris fern fronds, ancient horsetails (Annularia), and related carboniferous lycophyte vegetation. The collection is expertly organized, highlighting several perfectly matched “positive and negative” split nodule pairs nestled in their individual compartment cells, displayed alongside individual un-cleaved specimen stones, crinoid stems, and fossilized wood sections. Originating from Sugar Creek, Indiana, with a documented field-collection date of 1996, these siderite concretion fossils showcase classic brick-red, ochre, and grayish-brown shale matrices with exceptionally crisp, high-contrast structural impressions. Condition is generally excellent for authentic, field-collected material; the paired halves exhibit clean, historic splits, while the overall lot shows only natural geological wear, minor edge chipping, and fine sediment residue expected of a well-curated, untouched regional collection. Total grouping footprint measures approximately H 3″, W 24″, D 36″. Please see photos for condition.
