Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2110:
Description
This evocative assembly of frontier-era artifacts is anchored by a 19″ turned-wood billy club featuring an “ALHAMBRA SALOON” silver-tone shield and a period-style handwritten label detailing its history in the legendary cowtowns of Dodge City, San Francisco, and Tombstone. Historical records place the Alhambra in Dodge City as early as 1872 on North Front Street, while the Tombstone establishment (c. 1881) on Allen Street was a favored haunt of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. The set is uniquely tied to Deadwood, SD, history through an 8.75″ “TREBER’S” marked steel ice pick and a crimped copper relic embossed “JOHN TREBER DEADWOOD, S.D.”—likely a stamped cane tip or ferrule from Treber’s legendary wholesale house. Complementing the lot is a wood-handled steel dagger measuring 14″ overall (8.5″ blade), a 5.25″ ornate floral-patterned flask, a 2.75″ x 1.75″ vintage Riz La+ rolling paper booklet, and a 3.25″ Lion Brand Coffee cloth bag. The billy club shows heavy patina and tape residue; the dagger exhibits significant oxidation and blade pitting; the flask is heavily dented on the reverse; the copper Treber relic shows deep oxidation and is severely compressed/crushed at the tip; rolling papers show foxing and edge wear. H 19″, W 14″, D 3”. Please see photos for condition.
